The 3-time major champ also expressed, “It’s just very bizarre,” before continuing, “Like my game feels fine and I’m just not getting much out of it.” What’s more, the pro expressed how exasperating it was while recalling the double bogey he carded on the par-5, 14th; “It’s extremely frustrating because I drove the living piss out of the ball today and I picked the wrong line on 14 and it’s the one drive I missed honestly like five, six yards right of where I was looking and then I don’t find it.” Spieth could only look on in disbelief at the situation as he added, “I was like, see, now my driving stats don’t look the way they actually feel and I’m 4 over… What in the world is going on?” Anyhow, the PGA Tour pro managed to end the round 1-over with a late save in the back nine. This, in turn, helped boost his confidence, “I got a couple of nice breaks late that maybe make me feel like the game’s not as hard as it’s been feeling. “ Anyhow, the final few sets of holes helped him finish better than he initially started on the first day of play. However, what turned the heads of many was the iconic hole-in-one he carded when he was as low as T97 at a point in time. What’s more, this ace interestingly came during a day filled with five bogeys, a double bogey, and four birdies. Well, one can hope he manages to dust himself off and move forward since he sure has his work cut out for him if he is to make the weekend cut and have a chance at the trophy.
